2006 New Zealand Beer Awards Entering 8 beers into the New Zealand Beer Awards for 2006, the Dux de Lux walked away with 6 coveted titles. Alpine Ale, a beer brewed at the onsite Dux de Lux Brewery in Queenstown was named Best New Zealand Draught for the second year running. Alpine Ale 2006’ was awarded the Colin Harrison Memorial Trophy for Best New Zealand Draught The Queenstown brewery’s Wakatipu Wheat brew was recognized with a bronze medal The onsite brewery in Christchurch won 4 awards this year: Dux Lager - Best New Zealand Lager 2006, Non Tom - Best Non or Low Alcohol Beer 2006, Bronze Award in Classic English Style Pale Ale Class for Nor’Wester, Bronze Award in English Style Mild Ale Class for Hereford Bitter 200 entries were entered into the awards that were held in Nelson in late April. The beers were judged by 7 international and national beer judges over two days. Brewer Sam Goff and Masterbrewer Dick Fife brew Alpine Ale and Wakatipu Wheat onsite at the Dux de Lux in the McNeills Cottage Brewery Queenstown. All Dux de Lux beers are brewed naturally and have no added sugars, no added flavourings and no antioxidants. Dick Fife, who has a background as a chef, is highly skilled in combining rich flavours and ingredients and carefully crafting them into beer. The titles are yet another highlight for a small operation that is recognised around the world for its unique beer. The Dux de Lux has seven permanent brands of beer brewed on site and a range of seasonal beers available. The Dux de Lux motto remains the same . . . “the Natural Choice”.
